I started writing poems from my early teen years. Writing for me was a means to control my emotions, regardless of which one. I have done my own research and noted teens cutting their bodies, becoming promiscuous, drinking; they had different methods of dealing with their emotions. For me, writing worked as the best strategy ever. I would just shut out the world and write. Let go of everything, if I was hurt, I wrote, I am happy, I wrote. As children growing up, my classmates would often talk about writing in their diaries, and I would also see it in movies, but writing in a diary was not enough for me.
Writing and I really fell in love during my puberty peak, writing love letters. Yet that was not enough, everyone did that, I don’t always like to follow the crowd so poems it was. I stop writing every now and then but whenever I get back in the mood, I just keep going.
When I started sharing my poems with my co-workers, they all thought it was really good and kept encouraging me to publish my poems. I honestly didn’t think they were that good until I saw persons much older than me relating to the sentiments shared in the poem. My poems, the ones I thought were childish and silly, adults understood and wanted to read. However, that still did not give me the boost to proceed with publishing my poems, because they were mine. My feelings, my life stories, my experience, my past. How could I let complete strangers know my struggles?
My book is entitled “tears of my heart.” because tears are so complex. There are so many reasons why humans, especially females shed tears. If my poems are going to be about me, they are going to be called tears of my heart, the joys that I felt, the sadness, the hurt, the neglect, the laughter, the friendships, all what provided motivation. My best ones are those I wrote for my mother and my close friends.
You may not relate to every poem, but there will be one that ignores your entire body and goes straight to heart. I would be grateful to receive your feedback and comments, or simply let me know which one was your favourite.
I would also like to say a special thank you to all my friends, co-workers and random acquaintances, I gave to read my poems for their encouragement. I cannot recall giving my poems to anyone who did not insist that I continue writing and publish. Thank you for the push and most of all thank you for believing in me, convincing me that my tears should be shared with others and not kept to myself.
Thank you!
xoxo
